With barely a night's sleep everyone was up and out the door for a Quito city tour to get to know the capital's most emblematic sights. Admire the colonial-era architecture and picturesque plazas and stroll through the narrow streets of the city center.
We were treated to a surprise visit at a chocolate shop to sample the best chocolate in the world!
Shortly afterward we left Quito behind and set off into the Ecuadorian highlands and down into the rainforest, headed for Tena, in the Amazon. The five hour drive had a stop for lunch and a surprise snack at a small village along the way. Beetle larve! You gotta give it up to fellow travelers who ate the larve, especially Will who ate one raw! Bravo! Our guide Fabrizio was shocked as no one has done that before!

Also noted in Ecuador, the whole country, was initiating scheduled power outages due to lack of rain. When we arrived at the resort Suchi Pakari it was in total darkness and on perilious roads. All roads we were on were pretty much perilious.
