Exoticca scheduled flights for our group on random airlines and times. A small group of us left later in the day for Cuzco, Peru. After flying across the Andes we immediately got on a bus and traveled into the mountains. Our first stop was at Museo Sulca, a textile exhibition center where you can admire various fabrics and ceramics inspired by Pre-Inca and Inca cultures.
Some of the Inka and Andes women all across South America wear the traditional dresses for their communities or families everyday.
At the museum they showed us how they process the Alpaca wool and the natural dyes used to make the colors. Brilliant red is from smashing a parasite found on the cactus leaf. Orange and yellow from adding salt and minerals to the red dye. The designs are created by the person weaving. They alone design the tapestries.
